On the way back, we met many Miss from many countries at the airport. The Miss-World competition had been held in Sanya city, Hainan from November 11 to December 4 (http://www.missworld.tv) . The last day was the finale and Miss Chili was elected the Miss World 2004. Accidentally, we had Japan-China workshop at the same city and same time.

Hainan island was the place for prisons for a long time in the history of China. Hainan island is southern than Hanoi.

I could enjoy swimming in this pool. Hainan island started to be a place for vacation from 1999. It is not popular for Japanese and only 20 ? 30 thousand Japanese visits here this year.

Feilu from NAO, C and Min from IOP. Both from Beijing are enjoying Japanese autumn at Jin-Go-Ji Temple in Takao, Kyoto. With one day trip, we visited Jingoji Temple (Takao), Tenryuji-Temple (Arashiyama), and Chionninn-Temple (Higashiyama).

The picture is with one of the program directors, Mary Ann. All of data, review, comments etc are shown in the display of the computer in front of each panelist. 12 panelists discussed on 45 proposals over three days. It was a hard job, while very fruitful for me to know how US seriously reviews the proposals for competitive money. The details are confidential and I can show only this picture.

End of Heaven is the tip of the Shang-ton Peninsula. It took about 3 hours from Wehai-city by bus. Serge is my friend and came to China as lecturer for Summer School on Laboratory Astrophysics, organized by Jie Zhang and Gang Zhao. Stephan is Sergefs close friend. This day is one-day off for excursion to the famous place historically and of scenery.

All are watching TV of the final game of the Asian Soccer Cup. The final is between Japan and China. All students, of course, gave enthusiastic support to Chinese team, but I am, of course, for Japanese team. Japan wan the game with 3 to 1. I was happy and the students gave me words gCongratulationh.

At Taoism Temple in Taipei.

The gods of Taoism are real persons famous in Chinese history. The god of this temple was a medical doctor in the Sung dynasty (AD 960-1279). During Japanese occupation, Japanese army angered that Chinese has many gods in Taoism Temple, because then the god is only one, Japanese emperor. The army modified all Taoism Temples so that it has also Confucius Temple rear side. Confucius is well respected in Japan and no problem if the temples also have Confucius.

The gate was built when this university was established as one of the Imperial Universities of the Great Japan Empire before the WWII. Then, it called Taihoku-Imperial University, which was established two years earlier than Osaka Imperial University.
